About Eco Crayons
My name is Naomi Parsons, I am the woman behind the Eco Crayons brand. I am a mum, a teacher, a business owner and a creative soul. My vision for 100% plant based and truly non-toxic crayons and art mediums was born whilst watching my daughter, Arleena, and my students chew on crayons and other drawing tools from a young age, often with synthetic colours leeching, staining their skin and causing irritation. This was the birth of eco crayons.
I began researching what was in commercial non-toxic art products. The use of pigments containing heavy metals, paraffin (from petroleum), synthetic oxides and micas, plastics and asbestos particles alarmed me. As a parent and a teacher I want to know that the children in my circles are using safe art mediums to draw, paint, and explore.
Here is when the endless nights of reading and experimenting began. I can now, because of my passion for the experimentation process and ‘perfecting’ formulas and belief in myself, offer an eco-friendly alternative. One that I am happy to let my daughter chew! Watch this space for the full range of eco friendly, 100% plant based, non-toxic art mediums to be released.
About Eco Crayons
Eco crayons are 100% plant based making them non-toxic, vegan and biodegradable. Handmade from natural ingredients, waxes and butters, and colour pigments derived from plants, roots, seeds and flowers so you can colour the rainbow naturally TM.
The eco crayons difference: no paraffin, no palm oil, no beeswax, no mined micas or clays, no synthetic colours
PLANT BASED: made from 100% plant waxes and butters. The colour range is derived from plant, vegetable, root, spice and flower pigments. All art mediums are vegan, nut free, egg free, gluten free and dairy free making them a safe and natural alternative.
NON-TOXIC: the best part is that they are 100% non-toxic! Free from heavy metals, asbestos, paraffin (petroleum), parabens and palm oil. All waxes and colours are food grade so if they do make their way into little mouths they are completely safe.
DESIGN ELEMENTS: eco crayons rectangular blocks and leaves are specially designed to encourage the development of fine motor skills and promote correct pencil grip due to the thumb indentation on the back of each block. Eco crayons rectangular blocks also have sides of different widths to develop Steiner inspired drawing techniques and forms.
ECO PACKAGING: All labels and packaging are 100% recyclable. We use upcycled boxes and paper to package and ship orders and corn starch peanuts for internal packing. This makes both the art mediums and the packaging eco-friendly and sustainable.
BIODEGRADABLE: eco crayons are biodegradable so once you have finished using them you can put them in your green recycle bin, a tick for sustainability.
HANDMADE IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA: part of the eco crayons ethos is to make natural and non-toxic art mediums so all products are lovingly handmade from scratch using a small batch process in South Australia.

natural eco paints…what makes them unique?
PLANT BASED: natural eco paints are made from 100% plant ingredients. The colour range is derived from plant, root, spice and flower pigments. All art mediums are vegan, gluten free, nut free and dairy free making them a safe alternative. They are also free from non-renewable mined clay and micas which are commonly used to colour ‘eco-friendly’ art products.
NON-TOXIC: the best part is that that these paints are 100% non-toxic - free from synthetic colours and chemicals. Natural eco paints are food grade so if they do make their way into little mouths they are completely safe.
ECO PACKAGING: BIODEGRADABLE AND COMPOSTABLE: this is one of the most exciting parts of natural eco paints – the whole kit and its contents are either biodegradable or compostable – a tick for sustainability!
Unused paint is compostable and can go in a compost bin or green organics recycling.
The paint tubes and kit box are not laminated or lined for a reason – they can go straight into your home recycling bin.
The mixing cups and lids are made from corn starch derived PLA (poly lactic acid) and once you have finished with the kit you can pop them straight in the green organics recycling bin and they will break down over 12 weeks in an industrial recycling facility.
The wooden stirrers, spoons and tie are also uncoated and untreated so they can go in the green organics recycling.
The paint brush is the only thing left - custom designed and manufactured for little hands. If you decided to dispose of it the handle can go in the green waste bin, the aluminium ferrule can be recycled, and the vegan friendly bristles can be redcycled with soft plastics – to learn more: https://www.redcycle.net.au/.
